01
Plateau
Depressions hold a different season
Hollows retain deeper soil and moisture than surrounding ridges. Their flowering sequence may lag behind exposed ground by several weeks.
02
Use
Separate grazed and lightly used ground
Plant height and abundance can change sharply across grazing boundaries. Note evidence of use rather than treating it as background noise.
03
Return
A second visit changes the list
Early bulbs and later summer herbs may occupy the same ground at different times. Repeating a marked route produces a more balanced picture of the flora.
